At JEM, I stepped into the world of large-scale energy storage – a different beast from vehicle-scale battery systems, but one that draws on the same fundamentals. My core project was a 720kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), where I led the end-to-end electrical systems design and integration across BMS, EMS, HVAC, and switchgear. Bringing a system at this scale together meant every subsystem had to work together perfectly. This integration became the highlight of my role.
I worked closely with vendors across BMS, EMS, PCS, and switchgear, coordinating integration and testing to bring the system to life. Large-scale energy projects are measured by how well these pieces come together, and leading that cross-functional collaboration was one of the most demanding and rewarding parts of my role.
Behind the scenes, I also spent time researching EMS architectures and BESS topologies for multiple tender specifications and that work that fed directly into how JEM approached technical proposals.
One project I’m especially proud of: leading the integration of a 20kWh BESS system for Indian Railways; A use case where reliability isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s the entire point. Delivering a system for a railway application on the field was a meaningful milestone in this role.
